Time and Timelessness

The interplay between temporal transience and eternal timelessness offers a profound perspective within the Oneness Movement (OM). To navigate the complexities of time while embracing the eternal nature of Oneness, it’s essential to explore how these concepts coexist and influence our experience of reality.

1. Temporal Transience: The Experience of Time

Temporal transience refers to the linear experience of time we perceive in the physical realm. As humans, our vessels (bodies) exist in this framework, governed by the laws of cause and effect, growth, decay, and the inevitable passage of time. We observe these processes as:

  • Birth, growth, and death: Our bodies are subject to the biological cycle of life. We perceive these changes as time moving forward.

  • Cause and effect: Events seem to unfold in sequence—actions in the present leading to outcomes in the future, further reinforcing the linear structure of time.

  • Memories and future expectations: We divide our experiences into moments, which become memories of the past, with expectations of what’s to come, creating the illusion of a timeline where we move through life.

Within this framework, our vessels are rooted in a physical existence bound by time. However, this is only one level of experience.

2. The Eternal and Timeless Oneness

From the perspective of Oneness, time is not linear. Instead, time is a dimension of consciousness. In this state, past, present, and future collapse into a singular eternal Now:

  • Oneness is infinite and eternal: It exists outside the limitations of time and space. It has no beginning or end, and all that exists is interconnected in a timeless reality.

  • All moments coexist: From the lens of Oneness, the linear divisions of time dissolve, and everything exists in harmony at once—there is no "before" or "after."

This eternal state of Oneness transcends the temporal experience of our vessels and provides a deeper understanding of the true nature of reality.

3. Reconciling Time with Timelessness

The difficulty in reconciling temporal transience with timeless Oneness lies in our vessel’s experience of time as real. Yet, when we glimpse spiritual clarity, we recognize time as an illusion. To reconcile these two realities:

  • Time as an illusion of the vessel: Our perception of time arises from the vessel’s interaction with the physical world. The essence, however, exists beyond time, recognizing it as a construct rather than an absolute reality. Think of time as a river—the vessel experiences it as being carried along, but from the perspective of Oneness, the entire course of the river is visible at once.

  • The present as the point of eternity: The present moment is the meeting point between the vessel and essence. In moments of spiritual alignment, the present feels eternal, and the boundaries of past and future dissolve, revealing the eternal Now.

4. Time as a Tool for Experience

In the OM framework, time is a tool that allows the essence to experience and evolve through the physical world:

  • Time enables growth and learning: Without time, there would be no sequence of events, no journey to experience or learn from. Time provides the canvas on which life’s experiences unfold, offering the essence opportunities for growth.

  • Analogy: Time is like a book, with each page representing a moment in the vessel’s journey. While the vessel reads one page at a time, the essence holds the entire book—able to see the full story from beginning to end.

5. Gnosis of Timelessness

The goal within OM is to recognize both temporal transience and timelessness:

  • The essence is eternal: It is unaffected by the passage of time.

  • The vessel’s experience of time is an illusion, part of its journey but not the ultimate reality.

Through meditation or spiritual practice, individuals can briefly align with the eternal state, transcending time. These moments provide profound peace, where concerns of the future and regrets of the past dissolve, leaving only the presence of Oneness.

6. Integrating Timelessness into Daily Life

Living with awareness of both time and timelessness is a key practice within OM:

  • Live with both perspectives: Acknowledge the vessel’s experience of time but maintain the awareness that the essence is not bound by it. When stress arises from temporal concerns, return to the awareness of the timeless nature of your essence.

  • Practice presence: Mindfulness, meditation, and contemplation allow you to experience the eternal Now more frequently. By focusing on the present, you tap into the truth of timeless Oneness, even within the constraints of time.

7. Conclusion: Time and Eternity in OM

In the Oneness Movement, temporal transience and timeless Oneness coexist harmoniously:

  • The vessel operates within time, experiencing growth and learning through life’s journey.

  • The essence exists beyond time, in the eternal present, where all things are interconnected and whole.

By recognizing and integrating both aspects, we navigate life with greater peace, knowing that while the vessel moves through time, the essence remains rooted in the timelessness of Oneness. This balance allows us to live freely and trust in the eternal nature of reality.
